Postpartum Recovery

What this is

You've Birthed the Baby, Now Let's Heal the Mom

The postpartum period is physically demanding — you are recovering from one of the most intense experiences your body will ever go through while simultaneously caring for a newborn around the clock. Whether you had a vaginal delivery or C-section, your pelvis, spine, and core need intentional support to realign and stabilize. Neurologically focused chiropractic care helps your nervous system shift out of the stress response that built up during labor, so your body can direct its energy toward healing and bonding with your baby.

What we help with

The signals we hear most often.

These are the things that bring families to Postpartum Recovery. None of them are the actual problem — they're just the most visible symptoms of an underlying nervous-system pattern.

Nursing Back Pain

The constant 'hunch' from breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and rocking creates immense tension in the upper back and shoulders. Over weeks and months, this posture can lead to chronic thoracic pain, headaches, and even numbness or tingling in the arms and hands.

Pelvic Floor Issues

Lingering weakness, instability, or pain in the pelvic floor after delivery affects everything from walking to lifting your baby. Proper pelvic alignment is foundational to pelvic floor recovery — without it, exercises alone often fall short.

Sleep Deprivation

Broken sleep patterns keep your nervous system locked in 'survival mode,' making it harder for your body to heal and for your brain to regulate mood and emotions. When you do get a chance to rest, spinal tension can prevent you from falling asleep or staying asleep.

Mommy Wrist

Repetitive strain from lifting, holding, and nursing your baby puts intense pressure on the wrists and thumbs, often developing into De Quervain's tenosynovitis. Nerve irritation in the neck and upper back can contribute to this condition by altering nerve supply to the hands and forearms.

By the numbers

94%

of patients in our postpartum recovery program complete the corrective phase of their care plan — meaning the change shows up in the data, not just on the table.

How we approach it

Restoring Balance After Birth

Dr. Colton O'Brien gently realigns the spine and pelvis to support your body's natural healing process after birth. Our care focuses on calming the nervous system so you can rest better, heal faster, and show up as the mom you want to be. Using INSiGHT scanning technology, we objectively track how your nervous system is recovering postpartum, adjusting your care plan as your body moves through each stage of healing.

“The body knows what to do. We just clear the way and trust the wisdom inside.”

What changes

The benefits people notice first.

Faster Recovery

Proper spinal and pelvic alignment improves blood flow and nerve function, accelerating tissue healing after delivery. Whether you had a vaginal birth or C-section, restoring alignment helps your body recover the way it was designed to.

Better Posture

We actively counteract the strain of carrying, feeding, and rocking your baby all day. Correcting postural imbalances now prevents them from becoming chronic issues that follow you for years.

Mood Support

Regulating the nervous system can help stabilize mood and reduce the anxiety and overwhelm that many new moms experience. When your body is stuck in 'fight or flight,' it's harder to feel present and connected — chiropractic helps restore that balance.

Energy Boost

Spinal misalignments act like 'power drains' on your already-depleted energy reserves, forcing your body to work harder just to function. Removing these interferences frees up energy so you can keep up with the demands of new motherhood.

J

I was in so much pain after my delivery I could barely lift my son. Dr. Colton helped me get my strength back. I'm a better mom because I'm not in pain.

Your path

Three steps to lasting wellness.

Every postpartum recovery care plan walks the same arc. The visit length, frequency, and specific protocols vary — the spine of the plan does not.

  1. 1

    Consult & scan

We start with a conversation and three INSiGHT scans to see exactly what's going on in your nervous system. No guessing, no gut-check — just data.

  2. 2

    Custom care plan

We build a plan tailored to your nervous system's specific needs, your goals, and your stage of life. You see the recommendation before you commit to anything.

  3. 3

    Gentle adjustments

Specific, gentle corrections to clear the interference and let your body do what it was designed to do — heal. Re-scanned at the end of each phase so you can see the change.

Before you book

Common questions about Postpartum Recovery.

How soon can I come in after birth?

As soon as you feel ready! Many moms come in within the first week. We use very gentle techniques suitable for healing bodies, and we modify our approach based on your delivery experience.

Can I bring my baby?

Always. We love babies! We can even check your newborn during the same visit. Many families make it a two-for-one appointment.

Is postpartum chiropractic different from regular chiropractic?

Yes. We account for the ligament laxity from relaxin still in your system, the pelvic changes from delivery, and the unique physical demands you are under as a new mom. Every adjustment is tailored to your postpartum body.

Can chiropractic help with postpartum depression or anxiety?

While we don't treat depression directly, many moms report improved mood and reduced anxiety after starting care. When the nervous system is stuck in a chronic stress response after birth, gentle adjustments help shift it back toward rest and recovery, which supports emotional well-being.

How does chiropractic help with breastfeeding difficulties?

Upper back and neck tension can affect your posture and comfort while nursing, and nerve irritation in the mid-back can influence milk supply. Additionally, if your baby has a latch issue due to neck tension from birth, we can address both mom and baby together.

I had a C-section. Can I still receive care?

Absolutely. C-section recovery involves healing from major abdominal surgery while caring for a newborn. We use gentle, low-force techniques that avoid the incision area and focus on restoring pelvic alignment and nervous system function to support your recovery.
